Sunday Gospel Reflections
The Advent season helps us to ground ourselves well in what is
essential in life: our relationship with God and how it overflows
into our relationship with others. The themes of watchfulness,
prayer, baptism, conversion, and repentance mark the first three
Sundays and remind us of something very basic in our Christian
lives - to be vigilant always, because Christ our Savior will
come with great mercy, to save us if we humble ourselves and
acknowledge our need for His saving power. To learn more about
these Advent themes, below are the links to the reflections for
the first 3 Sundays of Advent:
"Be on guard, pray constantly"
"Make ready the way of the Lord"
"He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit"

Irish Monasticism and Private Confession
Before St. Benedict and his monastic rule became predominant in
Europe, the Irish monks also left the Church with a good spiritual
legacy which continues to be practiced today. Their monastic
spirit is sophisticated, and its asceticism strives hard for
spiritual perfection. It was these Irish monks who prescribed
individual guidance in private confession to the lay faithful of
their time. The people benefitted much and continue to cherish
this tradition of the sacrament as an effective means for growth
in the Christian life.
