Sunday Gospel Reflections
The Sunday gospel reflections are given in the blog, Enkindle in
Them the Fire of Your Love. They are posted 4-6 days earlier to
give opportunities for those attending bible sharing sessions to
obtain points for reflection and sharing. You may also use these
gospel reflections as points for meditation in your prayer.
The themes presented in the gospel reflections for the past two
Sundays and the coming Sunday (October 18) are on: marriage,
detachment from material possessions, and self-sacrificing service
in leadership. To know more about these themes, the links to the
gospel reflections are given below:

Two blog posts on the Holy Spirit
Devotion to the Holy Spirit has resurged, after the 2nd Vatican
Council reformulated the Church's teaching, and rerooted it in
the full biblical tradition and vision, of the Holy Spirit's
action, both in the Church and in the world. In two blog posts,
you can learn the Litany to the Holy Spirit, and the old
prayer, Veni Creator. There is also an explanation of how
devotion to the Holy Spirit was weakened beginning with the
Eastern Schism of 1054 A.D., and how it flourished anew with the
Vatican II council.

A story of survival from typhoon 'Ketsana'
When typhoon 'Ketsana' hit Manila and the nearby province of
Rizal, many Filipinos were caught unprepared. During and after
the 6-9 hours of unceasing rains, there were many radio reports
of both tragedy and survival. One radio report gives the story
of a small businesswoman, who acted immediately when the floods
rushed into her home and store. She called her family members to
help her quickly get all the food commodities of her small store
and place them on the roof. So, when bancas (small boats) passed
by her roof, ferrying people away from the flooded area, this
small businesswoman was able to sell also her food items to
passengers of the bancas. The passengers of these bancas needed
just a morsel of bread to keep their strength up against the
stress given by the severe calamity.
