On the Sunday Gospel, Praying to the Holy Spirit, and Stability

Sunday Gospel Reflections

The Sunday Gospel reflections are composed of the following
parts: references to all the readings for the Sunday Mass
liturgy; a brief summary on the gospel; notes from secondary
sources such as bible commentaries; and some points suggested
for reflection - usually questions for self-examining our
consciences and Christian lives. Given below are the gospel
reflections for last Sunday and this coming Sunday.

The Spirit Helps Us in Our Weakness

This blog post reflects on Romans 8:22-23; 26-27. This passage
from St. Paul reminds us that the mission of building the
Kingdom, which Jesus began in His earthly ministry, is to be
continued by the Church as she is empowered by the Spirit. And
by our own experience, we know that fidelity to Christ in the
Church is not always smooth-sailing. This happens when we
experience only the "will" to commitment, instead of the "joy"
of commitment. That is why St. Paul makes us aware that the
Spirit helps us in this weakness. As the Spirit prays on our
behalf, He supplies us with the joy of commitment (and all other
spiritual gifts besides) necessary to make us strong in our
faithfulness to Jesus and His Church.

Stability as a Christian Virtue

In our secular lives, we read daily in the news about
political instability in certain parts of the world, and also
about the general economic uncertainty we are all immersed in.
Our world values political and economic stability. If we however
have the opportunity to do some spiritual reading aside from
the news, we will also learn that stability is also a state of
soul. In the book, "In the Heart of the City, In the Heart of
God", by Pierre-Marie Delfieux, he writes that stability is also
a Christian virtue. We will see how he develops this theme in
his writing.

Seeing the Web Evolve from 1999-2009

In 1999, the Web was like a "desert" and Catholics were able to
"meet" other Catholics online through question-and-answer forums
in Catholicity.com and Catholic.org. Now in 2009, ten years
after, the Web has become peopled with so many races, cultures
and ethnic groups speaking in various languages. This blog post
will report how the Web has evolved from a space that was
originally populated with a few web sites, into one that
exponentially expanded to so many web sites - each populated
with peoples of various cultures and languages. The end of the
blog post mentions nine up-and-coming web sites in 2009 that is
presently contributing to the evolution of the Web.
